Positive Education – IoT, better known as the Internet of Things, is a term that most people outside of the IT sector might not be familiar with. But, not to worry! We are here to describe what IoT is and what it can do so you and your child will have a better understanding. Without further ado, let’s jump right into it:
What is IoT?
In a nutshell, IoT is about extending the power of the Internet beyond our computers, laptops and smartphones to a whole range of other things, processes, and environments – all of which are used to gather information, send information, or both in certain circumstances. It essentially involves automating everything, and putting in into the digital world!
It allows everything to be interconnected and for your to be on the go with ease.
How does IoT work exactly?
The Internet is like a cloud that holds unlimited data from all over. Search engines such as Google have to access this cloud to provide results and information for their consumers. Your device doesn’t need to have super storage or a supercomputer inside of it, all it needs is to connect to either.
The IoT relies on three factors: Sensors that collect information and then send it, computers that receive information and then act on it, and things that do both.
The Biggest Benefit of IoT
Being connected to the Internet can yield tons of benefits that can create amazing opportunities for you and your child! For instance, your child can research on climate change with the push of a button from a tablet or smartphone from anywhere – so long as they are connected to the Internet. The Internet operates just like a cloud so you can peruse and digest information with incredible ease and speed considering the vast wealth of information available. Remember to guide your child as information they consume always requires context!
Why does IoT matter?
The reason why IoT matters a lot in the long run is due to the fact that it helps provide people and businesses a much better insight into objects and environments currently beyond the reach of the internet and obtain control over those same objects and environments and keeps them connected to the world around them.
IoT is at the center of the Digital World and provides a level of convenience and accessibility rarely seen before. It is a great pathway to your child’s future!
