Our Positive Education

What is Positive Education?

Positive Education culminates the science of positive psychology with best practice teaching to encourage and support schools and individuals within their communities to flourish.

Why Positive Education?

PlayFACTO School is a strong advocates the importance of student and staff wellbeing. According to a study by the Institute of Mental Health, 1 in 17 Singaporeans would have suffered from depression at some time in their life. Coupled with the rising need of our students to compete on a global field, education experts argue that the skills for wellbeing should be taught in school. There is substantial evidence from empirical studies that skills to increase resilience, positive emotion, engagement and meaning can be successfully taught to schoolchildren and achieve meaningful outcomes.

How does PlayFACTO School Implement Positive Education?

Since 2017, PlayFACTO School has been collaborating with Positive Education Schools Association to enrol our teaching staff, parents and stakeholders on a collective mission to nurture wellbeing and promote mental health through a holistic approach where student accomplishment and well being are both valued objectives that contribute to flourishing. We do so through the use of the PERMA Model by Doctor Seligman.

Feeling Good

Feeling good about their work and learning to find joy in life’s daily highs and lows. Student who are better able to find joy in what they do are more likely to persevere and face challenges through creative and alternative solutions.

Finding Flow

In every classroom, our teachers provide multiple opportunities that allow our students to soak and absorb into the present moment, creating a ‘flow’ of blissful immersion into the task or activity. Through this ‘flow’, our students’ intelligence, skills and emotional capabilities are stretched.

Relationships

Authentic Connections

Our classrooms are intentionally designed to promote social and collaborative learning. Through the support of our nurturing educators and facilitators, our students learn to build positive relationships with their peers.

Purposeful Existence

Through our outcome-driven character development programme, our children have multiple opportunities to interact and relate to social issues that connects the to something larger than themselves and therefore feel as though what they are doing has value. (I.e. learning about inspiring people)

Accomplishment

A Sense of Accomplishment

Through our focus on active learning, students support and champion each other whilst in their groups. This increases motivation and persistence in an attempt to overcome possible challenges. Celebrating achievements is also another way by which our teachers motivate our little ones to build a growth mind-set and resilience.
